CMS regulations, JCAHO standards, NRP/NIMS and the NIMS Implementation Center Hospital and Healthcare Facility Plan mandate a new level of Disaster Planning, Preparation and Practice. This mandate creates a market pressure towards Comprehensive Immersion Simulation Training that includes a “Crawl – Walk – Run” approach to Disaster Exercise programs for staff and ICS training for administration. Disaster Life Support of North America has developed a program that provides all required education and drills to meet all patient safety, disaster preparedness/response and community/multi-agency drills required under CMS regulations, JCAHO standards, NRP/NIMS and the NIMS Implementation Center Hospital and Healthcare Facility Plan. The program provides client hospitals and healthcare facilities with comprehensive disaster planning, preparation and response training, significant patient safety improvement through the use of simulation based training and demonstrable cost savings compared to the present market approach to these processes while protecting these clients from potential financial harm. C5RITICAL: Continuous Casualty Care Course Series This flagship training program for DLS of North America is based on a model already well proven and the gold standard military casualty care training. C5RITICAL utilizes Immersion Simulation Training environments to enhance learning by fully engaging all the senses. In this controlled environment, participants in large scale training will have the opportunity to attend lectures and tabletop simulation exercises for all aspects of medical and psychological disaster response. This 5 day course is co-produced and co-presented with Medical Planning Resources (MPR) and includes 2 Tabletop Drill, one Walk-Through Drill and a 5 hour long Patient Influx Drill. The Patient Influx drill includes all phases of the event cycle (Field, Surge, Triage, Decon, Acute Care and Inpatient Treatment). C5RITICAL meets all current and proposed CMS, JCAHO and NIMS/NRP requirements for Disaster and Patient Safety Drill for a given 2 year training cycle. C5RITICAL is an immersion simulation program which may incorporate training for the following courses: · Advanced Disaster Life Support™ (ADLS®) · Basic Disaster Life Support™ (BDLS®) · Core Disaster Life Support™ (CDLS®) · ICS 100 · ICS 200 · ICS 700 · ICS 800 · National Patient Safety Initiative (NPSI) Provider Training · Mass Decon Management for Healthcare First Receivers (MDM-HFR) · Psychological First Aid for Healthcare First Receivers (PFA-HFR) Within one to two days, participants become both familiar with the simulation environment and comfortable in operating in it. Part of their training experience relies on participants developing this level of comfort. Once they have established a level of comfort, and even routine, within the environment, the live disaster drills begin. These unannounced drills involve participants Donning and Doffing Level C personal protective equipment and performing wet decontamination on simulated victims, as well as mannequins. The final day of training involves a full scale disaster drill that incorporates community response elements, fire/rescue, EMS, law enforcement, HAZMAT, and whenever possible, other health care facilities. The drill concentrates on the hospital’s role in the response and will be videoed, graded and an edited copy of the video provided to the hospital as verification of the drill for hospital accreditation purposes. DLS of North America will offer three version of this immersion simulation training
