Greg Smith and his family lost everything in their home during Hurricane Katrina. To recover from that takes strength. When you envision the word, "strength," you probably don't think of a 65-pound man in a power wheelchair. How could a "Strength Coach" be so frail? Then, suddenly, you "get it." Moments into Greg Smith's presentation, after hearing his resonant voice, you find yourself realizing that his presence reveals a deeper level of strength: inner strength!

Born with muscular dystrophy, raised by a football coach, Greg's memorable message successfully strengthens the individual delivering lessons on inner strength and personal development. He also focuses on "Strengthening America" by encouraging the embracing and exploration of the viewpoints of those around us who are different.

In February, 2005, his remarkable life was shared with America in a PBS documentary entitled "On A Roll: Family, Disability and the American Dream." http://www.pbs.org/onaroll He is the author of "On A Roll: Reflections from America's Wheelchair Dude with the Winning Attitude." And he is currently emerging as a multi-media talent and social commentator with a very unique background.

His radio show, "The Strength Coach," airs nationwide on the Radio America Network. For 11 years, Greg hosted "On A Roll - Talk Radio on Life & Disability." This syndicated program aired on more than 70 stations nationwide. For that work, he is respected as a disability community leader.

Greg is a member of the National Speakers Association and makes dozens of trips across the country to address corporate, academic and private audiences. In addition to his busy career, he is the father of three active children, ages 15, 13 and 10.


Honors and Accomplishments:

- Philadelphia's National Liberty Museum named him an "Exceptional American" in an exhibit featuring citizens who have "Achieved Remarkable Success." Side by side with Greg are profiles of Muhammad Ali, Lance Armstrong, Casey Martin, Christopher Reeve, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Wilma Rudolph, Stevie Wonder, and others.

Background:

Born the son of a football coach, Greg began his career in journalism in high school where he was a play-by-play football announcer for the student-run radio station. At Arizona State University, he became sports director for the campus radio station and did play-by-play for the Sun Devils, while interning as a radio beat reporter covering the Phoenix Suns.

In 1986, Greg completed his Bachelor of Arts in Broadcasting and worked in the marketing department for top-rated news/talk radio station, KTAR. From 1990 to 1992 he served as the host of "Cardinal Talk," a call in program which followed every NFL Cardinals game. Greg resigned from Pulitzer and started "On A Roll" in 1992.

A father of three non-disabled children, Greg is a wheelchair user with muscular dystrophy, and drives a modified Chevy Venture
